The artist encountered grouse on the trail around Naches Peak in Mount Rainier National Park and took many reference photos. This hen is shown in a simple landscape inspired by the vegetation next to the trail. In 2016, this was accepted for the juried show at Art on the Green, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
